Hi everyone. I'm new here so be gentle.
I did a search on the subject and found it to be a common topic with different results. So maybe you guys can point me in the right direction.
I have a bone stock 2002 sport 4x4 (53000 miles) with a vibration in the rear end. It starts at about 60 mph up to 70 mph then it trails off.No noise that I can detect.
Nothing is felt in the steering wheel, just in the seat of the pants.
It has new tires and balance. (the winter tires and wheels do the same thing).
At the advice of a mechanic friend I changed u-joints in the rear shaft.
I also checked runout on the axle's at the hub. (R.005" L.002").
The brakes rotors are new and it did it with the old ones.
I can move the yoke up and down a little at the transfer case. maybe .01". Not enough to alarm me. Or should there be none whatsoever?
There is a little slop in the slip yoke. But i dont know what would be unacceptable.
My last observation was that the rubber transfer case mount seems a little rubbery ( it dosent appear ripped). I can move the case around a little by pushing on the yoke for the rear shaft. Is that normal? I know I cant move my mustang tranny mt. that much.
I am thinking it is the drive shaft slip joint/balance, or the out put of the transfer case.
What do you guys think.
Sorry if it's a little winded.
