2002 explorer sport trac
Hi, first post here, have done a ton of reading today and I gotta tell ya, this site looks like it may become my new best friend when it comes to troubleshooting my 02 sport trac. So as I said I have been reading in regards to 02's and wether or not they come prewired for 7 pin trailer plug with electric brake or not. It seems I have found threads claiming they are, with plugs located in various locations and threads claiming none of the 02's came prewired except for a 4 pin flat harness. I just put a class III hitch on, I have a 4 wire harness allready at the back, there is also 2 more wires coming out of the same wire bundle that the harness is tied into and they have heat shrink coationg on the ends, the gauge of these wires are very light maybe18-16 so I'm thinking these can't be what I need for an electric brake.I have a TRUCONTROL GOLD electric brake and so far I have wired black as live all the time, white as ground, red tied to brake harness( it has 5 wires at the pedal and I tied to one that gives me 12 volts when pedal is pressed), as for the blue I would like to tie it to an existing wire if I am equipped with it or am I further off to just run a wire straight back to the seven pin plug. I hope this did'nt sound all to confusing but I know I am.

Don't know if this helps any but my ST is 4.0 liter 6cyl. With tranny cooler and overdive on/off switch on gear shift.

1st Gen Sport Tracs (2001-2005) definitely did NOT come wired for a brake controller. But, it's not that hard to wire one up. I did it in my 2000 Explorer Limited.

Thanx for the reply, I wired it in on the weekend and also ran an extra wire from the battery for aux. wasn't tough at all, only thing that sucked though was my brake control display seems to be burnt out but it still is under warranty so I will get a new one replaced, it is supposed to have a better display built in, it is a TRUCONTROL GOLD. Talked to there tech guys and I guess they were having a problem with the displays. Thanx again for the reply.
