2002 XLT ignition issues

I recently purchased a 2002 XLT and the key is always difficult to remove. I've sprayed some WD40 in the ignition but it didn't help much.

Now today the key didn't want to turn to start the vehicle. I really had to twist it hard and it finally popped free and allowed me to start the truck.

Any thoughts for how I can fix these issues without replacing the entire ingition system?

a few different reasons it might be giving you a problem, could be a poorly cut or worn out key, broken wafers the cylinder, broken side bar if this ignition has one (i don't recall) or something broken in the ignition housing.
