I am looking for the proceedure to check the fluid level in my transmission since there is no dip stick. I believe the trans is toast as it makes a buzzing noise and went out this morning. I have no gears forward or reverse but when it cools down it will move but once hot it will not move in any direction. I want to check the fluid for color and smell to see if it's just possibly low or if the fluid smells burnt. Owners manual just said take it to the dealer you cannot service it. I know there are proceedures to check these types of transmissions. I did it when I was a tech a while back but it was on Jaguars but Ford did own Jag for a while so I'm wondering if the porceedure is similar. Had a warranty on it but it expired in Feb, go figure. 
It is a 4x4 also but I want to do a little preliminary checking before towing to a shop and getting 5,000.00 bill. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
