2003 Mountaineer
I have a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer. It has the rear seat entertainment in it from the factory. About 2 years ago, it quit working. It will accept the dvd, the monitor has something come up on it, but the dvd will not play. I need for it to work for my grandchildren. Anyone know anything about them, or who I can get to repair it.

You should take it to a local car audio shop or the dealership and ask them to take a look. Or you could unplug the battery for 5 minutes to reset the system and load default factory settings. That might work.

Not sure how handy you are but its held in with 3 screws, 2 next to the screen and 1 in the DVD holder. Might see something obvious.

Sometimes they show up on Fleabay used, . . . .

Not sure if anyone is repairing them, i'd call around and see if anyone does. I you can remove it, you can ship it anywhere. But given the size and cost of shipping, the JY route might be the cheapest. Just some thoughts.

you may need to replace the laser, you can buy them off ebay for 7 bucks. does it play music cd's?

haven't tried that, I have a 6 CD changer in the front that works fine.

in the dvd player its self, there are two different laser's, one for audio, and one for movies, so again does it play music cd's?

dvd player

I will try it when I get home. I'm at work right now.

I'll go outside and try it

be right back

dvd player

Went to the vehicle, tried to put a cd in the dvd player, would not let me insert the cd. I tried using the eject, play, stop buttons. Did nothing. However on the front cd player, just as it is suppose to it came up "video" like it's suppose to. don't know what to do next. I have a cd cleaner, but of course it would not insert either. I did not see any screws to remove the player to look inside it. It has been like this for over a year. I have tried it at different times, with the same result. I changed the battery in december and it did not reset the dvd then.

Can you take a flash light and see if a DVD is stuck inside?
Only way is to remove the DVD is to remove the whole console, . . . .that has the 3 screws as described, there are plastic hooks too, so it would need to slide to one side to clear. Once you get the console down, then you should see the player . . .

by saying the console, are you talking about the whole thing, screen included. It came factory installed and is the width of the vehicle at the top. It includes a storage space on the left, screen in the middle and the console on the right.

yep, whole thing per FSM. It comes down as one unit. 3 screws - 2 next to the screen and 1 screw is in the storage bin, need a low profile or right angle screw driver for that one. Then there are plastic hooks on the right above the controls. Not sure if it slides left or right to clear the hooks but after that there should be an electrical connector. These hooks are similar to the ones that hold the door panel which lift up then off, might be some pics of those??

In other words when you remove the screws, the thing will hang down a little, lift the unit up and try and slide the whole thing left and it will clear the hooks, then you can drop the whole thing down, storage bin, LCD, controls.

dvd rear console is down

I have the consol down and brought it in the house. there is no dvd stuck in it. However, on my way home this am from a short trip,I could hear a noise coming from the unit. Where are the sensors? It would not receive a cd or dvd at all.
