I am a new member:

I have a 2004 FORD Explorer 4x4 that I just bought 1 month ago. The original used car dealer said that the vibration problems in the seat was likely from bad tires. I have since been to Sears, they balanced the tires. No help. I then went and purchased a new set of Michelins and that did not help. I have since been back to the Ford Dealer 3 times and they have not been able to fix anything, even now after I have changed out the drive shaft with one of their new super-balanced drive shafts.

Please help! It is a fine-tuned vibration that I can feel in the seat at 62-78 miles per hour prodominantly.

I am suspecting serious problems, as the FORD REP said that there had been a Ford notice service bulletin issued for such vibration problems as this. But that their warranty did not cover this as it was not a safety issue.

Has anyone had similar problems? It is driving me nuts and I have not idea how to begin to resolve this issue.

Thanks for anyone who might be able to help me with this!

same issue just started with mine...

My 2005 XLT had a vibration at the same speeds you listed. Took it to the dealership and the replaced the rear dirveshaft and balanced the driveline under TSB 05-16-4. This was a warranty repair done at 16900 miles.

Good Luck!

Since mine is out of warranty, any clue on the cost?

I have no idea of the cost since mine was repaired under warranty. The warranty invoice gives no clues on parts cost or labor. They did however list the driveshaft assembly as FoMoCo part # 6L2Z*4602*A.

I did find a New OEM driveshaft for $339.15. Not sure if there are other parts involved for this TSB. Maybe the dealership could give you an estimate for performing the TSB.

Hope this helps.
