OK.... Because I do not see my "exact" set of circumstances I will provide them and try out this forum thing....
1st The transmission had a "cluck" or two after we bought it used less than a year ago. usually as we shifted into reverse, but no further issues for some months now and all through winter. The 4x4 worked good, it plowed through some serious mud and snow and did just fine. We lived in Arkansas.
2nd while still in Ar. there was a strange clicking noise coming from the left side back hatch area. the noise came and went and personal business kept me from researching the problem at all.
Now we had a medical emergency and have traveled to Florida. The drive was perfect, we made the trip in 2 days stopping in Louisiana for a night, then on to Florida. After we arrive, 4x4 light begins to come on and there is a grinding noise from the front end periodically, usually while the vehicle is turned and in reverse, but this changes and now it grinds and binds in forward as well.
now here is a list of the things it does....
1 in forward and reverse the front end grinds and binds building up to a large pop that reverberates through the floor board and quite literally will jerk the vehicle in either forward and backward motion.
2 when this happens the 4x4 high light will begin to flash and it refuses to fully engage or to disengage.
3 usually going straight has not (yet) been any issue.
...and here is what i know so far.
1 there is a bushing at the top of the knuckle on both sides that is in need of replacement.
2 there was the clicking noise from the left back hatch area, still not certain, but i a pretty sure my 4x4 computer is back there.
3 again not certain, but pretty sure the problem is related to the 4x4, hubs, computer, etc......
does anyone have any ideas???
