This 2004 4.6L Limited has been a real piece of work. Bought it with 110000 on it, have put on six and have already spent hundreds trying to keep it going.
Here's what I've done:
1. Alternator went out on first long trip with the truck. Replaced on the side of a highway with 2 wrenches and a crescent.
2. Right rear axle seal started pissing fluid. Replaced that.
3. Serpentine belt needed a replacing, especially after my roadside alternator replacement.
4. Evaporative emissions system has the check engine light on almost constantly. Replaced the check valve under the hood, still pulled the code, replaced the hoses in the engine compartment that connected to the valve, still pull the code. Now trying to get over my anger to spend the hundo to get the purge solenoid.
5. Service center "topped off"/over filled my transmission, causing it to blow fluid all over the place going down the highway.
Now here's what I have left to fix:
1. Right front bearing is trash.
2. I still need to figure out my emissions system problem.
3. After I got back today, something was misting water onto the ground from the area under the driver's floor board area. I took a peak without a light and it seems to be seeping off a horizontal bolt. I'll try to get a picture. WTF???
4. Occasionally lately I'll all of a sudden have some significant shudders/thumps from something on the chassis. Almost feels like a wheel rub but its never happened before. Not sure what that could be?
5. Could it be related to my clicky e-brake syndrome which I recently discovered I have?
Any insight on these problems would be appreciated.
Thanks.
