2004 XLT 3rd gear only

I was just given a 2004 Explorer XLT 4x4 (4 door) 4.0 with an auto trans. (5R55E I think) The truck only goes into 3rd gear. No 1st, no 2nd, no drive, and no reverse. The guy that gave me the truck had the trans rebuilt about 2 years ago. I had the local trans shop hook their computer up to it and they got no codes. They said “whatever the problem is, it’s mechanical, not electrical”. Has anyone had these symptoms? What was the diagnosis? Could it be the servos or the solenoid pack?

My 03 only had second gear and needed a full rebuild.Maybe get a second opinion at another tranny shop.

This may be a long shot, but check the F37 fuse. It is under the hood in the fuse box on the drivers side. I accidently forgot to put my fuse back in after I had replaced my transmision. I did have reverse, but no shifting on my test drive.
