2005 xlt 4.0l
Hey everyone, new to the forums here.
I've owned my 05 xlt with the 4.0 with 87000 mi. for about a year now and in the last week the tranny has started to slip going into 2nd gear on occasion along with an intermittent chirping noise that seems to be coming from the trans. I checked the fluid and topped it off to rule that out and it was a little darker than i would like. The question is does anyone have an idea of what may be causing these issues and what things i should check next to isolate the cause. Thanks

It could be the overdrive servo piston which affects 2 and 5 gears. They usually break or allow fluid to bypass and can cause those symptoms.

Just to see if it might help i just went ahead and changed the filter and fluid. it was pretty dirty anyway. the pan was relatively clean with nothing but a fine film in the pan and on the magnet. it seems to shift a tiny bit better but not much. Just for the heck of it i decided to tear the filter apart to see how it looked. Now i'm really worried i found what looks like copper shavings inside. Anyone have a guess as to what may be going on with itould be greatly appreciated
