My vehicle is CA emissions. I have been informed I need to replace the catalytic converter with a CARB Catalytic converter which is for California mandated for emission control. I live in AZ and will not be registering the vehicle in CA. I have found someone here who will cut out the old converter and replace it with a NON CARB compliant converter for every state but CA. I have heard that if you don't replace the converter with the CA emissions converter the vehicle will still throw a CEL or could have other problems. the vehicle has 163000 miles on it and the cost for the CA converter is almost 3x the cost of the regular EPA converter. Most of the dealers around here say you have to put in the same converter that you are taking out. What can and will happen if I try to save some money??
