So now that I have the cooling issue figured out, my 2006 is about to turn 150,000 miles but it runs like a top. What I'm looking for now is some sources of dashboard bling. You know, LED replacement lights, cooler bezels, and so forth. Time to dress the baby up a bit for another 150k. Anybody do anything cool or are there any good after-market sources?

My only bling has been to replace the stock radio with a nice touch screen unit. Replaced all four speakers with something that had a little more punch and added a rear camera since the head unit would take one.

There isn't much to bling out a 4th gen Explorer or Mountaineer period. You can get LED lights but this only does so much. As EddyB said, a good head unit would go a long way to spicing things up. I have the navigation unit and it does fine for me. If I had the base unit I would have swapped it out right after buying the vehicle.

I replaced the stock unit with a nice Kenwood receiver years ago, but am thinking I may upgrade that. The bluetooth is .... slow. A GPS display would be great, but I live in a closed community and I think I memorized every road 20 years ago. I was hoping for a display insert similar to the 2010 Fusions or something that just plain looked LIVELIER. The stock unit seems to look weak these days.

The navigation disc in my Mountaineer is the original 2010 version. I find it amusing to see how many roads in my area were not built in 2010. The nav stem chokes for a while when I am on a new road and then it seems to think I am off roading and shows me in no mans land.

I was hoping I could swap out the instrument cluster for a Ford unit with easier to read guage faces. The ones I have a hard to read in daylight and just before the headlights turn on. Unfortunately, swapping out the instrument cluster requires some reprogramming which is too much of a hassle for the benefit.
