Hi!

My 2007 EB engine is stopping randomly when the SUV is going downhill. After engine stops, I start it and it can´t hold the idle during some time. When it reaches plain road or goes uphill, the problem goes away.

Also, when the a/c is on, and after some time in traffic, the battery red light turns on, and engine temp raises turning on the radiator fan.

Sometimes, it lights the airbag orange light, which happens when battery is weak.

My scanner doesn´t show any new code. And BTW, after two days watching and scanning with no problems, the problem appeared minutes after I stored the scanner at home.

I´ve changed radiator some time ago, refilled trans, and since two years ago, when the dash was detached to replace a/c condenser behind the radio, the rear a/c and rear courtesy lights stopped working.

Weird, isn´t it?

Do you have the V6 or V8? Sounds like the alternator is failing, but over time this may sulphate the battery and it needs to be tested as well.

The stalling engine on a trailing throttle and the failure to idle sometimes sounds like the electronic throttle control position sensor is acting up. Since it is very sensitive to small variations in voltage the problem could also be related to a battery or alternator failing.

The engine temperature rising in traffic and turning on (cycling the rad cooling fan) is fairly normal, however, the red battery light should not come on. The battery and alternator are also being subjected to extra heat and may be failing.

Lighting the airbag light should not happen. How do you know the battery is weak? A load test on the battery will confirm it is weak and needs to be replaced. At the same time the alternator can be tested to determine if it needs replacement. Dirty contacts at the alternator can have the effect of reducing output and causing all sorts of problems.

The A/C evaporator is located in the dash area and the condenser is located in front of the engine coolant radiator. The A/C refrigerant is the same for front and rear systems. The front system controls the compressor and allows the flow to the auxiliary system. Since the refrigerant would have been removed from the system and replaced after the repair both systems should work properly. What did the repair shop say was the reason for the auxiliary heat/AC system not working?

Good luck.

Thanks Town!

First, I will check the battery condition.

About non working rear a/c and courtesy lights, I think it may be something at the Smart Junction Box. I´ll see. My mistake, I was talking about the a/c evaporator.

Engine is a 4.6 V8. Alternator is new.

Like I did with the 6R60 bump shifting, I´ll keep the forum members up to date with the progress of these new tasks.

Problem solved: The guilty ones were the Throttle Body wires connected to each side, they were toasted by the heat, and the issue was repaired just taking the black tape apart, separating each wire from the others, which were bonded by the high temperatures inside the hood, and and protecting them with a plastic wire protective hose.

My scan tool gave me 2135 code, then the VCM gave it too. No trans problems neither something else, just a bunch of toasted wires. Designers should REALLY drive the cars to make better ones, instead of living in a virtual CAD world without heat, rain, etc.!

Again my EB runs great!
