I own a 2007 Sport Trac XLT 4X4 (68k Miles) and I’m told that it has the 6R60 transmission. I've experienced some performance issues with the transmission (feels like its disengaging) during acceleration. I've read a number of blogs on the issues this transmission has and I've been told to get rid of the vehicle because there is no real fix. I’m wondering if anyone has heard of a solution, even if it’s a rebuilt, performance type replacement.

When I bought mine, the trans was acting funny. Found that it was way low on fluid.

No leaks, so I assume someone did an improper flush. I have 98,000 miles on mine and since adding the fluid, it has been fine. I am told it is a solid transmission but has "smarts" to it that can be flaky. The 6r60 is what we have in the v8. Is yours the v8 model? Have you owned it since new? If it is disengaging, there is obviously a fix. That is not normal.

You might want to make sure the latest firmware has been downloaded to your transmission from Ford also.

Brenspeed offers tunes. I keep hearing about Torrie that knows how to tune these transmissions too. I have not done any of this yet myself, so I am not sure what a difference it makes.

The 6r60 was upped to the 6r80 in later models and is used in the F150 and Mustang. I wonder if those are interchangeable? I believe you have to match the transmission ecu with the engine ecu. That might be a stumbling block...

Thanks for the response but I traded it in on a 2015 Chevy Colorado.

...or you could do that. :) How do you like it? How long did you own the ST?

Enjoy.

Love the Colorado but because it's the first year for this new model, accessories are almost non-existent. Completely new wheel bolt pattern too, so not much to choose from for now. I owned the ST for four years.

The aftermarket will likely jump on it quickly. Good luck with the new ride.

Not to to beat up what is now a dead thread, but I'll bet the problem was a coil or spark plug, now that I think about it. Super common and people sometimes think it is a transmission issue.
