We just got a new 2012 Explorer yesterday and before we left the dealership our saleman was showing us how to use the main menu with the Trip 1 or 2, Info, Setting, etc. We can't figure out how to get out of this main menu to get back to the main default screen that we had when we test drove the SUV. We thought you had to click the left arrow button but that is not taking us out of the Trip 1 or 2, Info, etc. area. Turning the vehicle on and off didn't do it either. I can't find anything in the manual on how to exit this screen. Can anyone help please?

First of all, congratulations on the new Explorer and welcome to the Forum. :wavey:
The manual I have shows how to use the Multi Function Display that is located between the Tach and Speedometer, which is what I believe you are referring to. Turning the vehicle OFF and ON won't change the display that has been chosen. That display is controlled by the left steering wheel controls. You can scroll up, down, left and right using the arrow keys.

Hi and thanks! Our display screen is in the middle of our odometer and spedometer because we have don't have the optional instrument cluster, we have the base one. I am in the Dislay mode, trip 1 and 2 area now but can't exit out of it.

What happens if you press the left arrow?

Nothing happens. It stays in that main menu and won't let me out of it.
So I guess what you are saying then is that you cannot get to the Information or Settings menus either by scrolling up or down? Looking at the manual, it appears that you have 3 menus to select from with Trip 1 & 2 being the other. You appear to be in one and unable to scroll to the others.
If so, I'm afraid I'm not going to be much help. With the Limited, using the left arrow is almost like using the 'back' button on a computer but it seems that you are already there.
Perhaps another member familiar with the base model will be able to assist.

I CAN get to the Information and Settings menus. I can get anywhere within that Main menu to any of the settings. The problem is that I can't get back out of it to exit the menu. Clicking on the left arrow button will not take me out of it. Thanks anyway.

What does the other screen look like? The one you are attempting to find. Looking at the brochure and the manual, I don't see where there is another choice. But perhaps another member can jump in and assist. Good luck.

I have the base as well.

There really is not a main menu.

The controls on the left is what you use to see the different options.

I recommend you using the up and down arrows on the left of the steering wheel and see where it takes you.

Then use the left and right arrows to manuever as well.

When you are in trip 1 hit the right arrow, then up and down arrows to see the contents (Distance Traveled, Average MPG, and so on). To get out keep hitting the rright arrow to get out.

On a second note let me know if after you drive for 12-15 minutes with the heat on do you hear a clicking popping sound coming from the fan control knob area.

Thanks ,

Bruce

Thank you Bruce, this is exactly what I was looking for. I'll let you know if I get that clicking sound with the heat on when I can. Luckily its beautiful out right now so no heat needed. Appreciate your help.
