2013 Ford Explorer XLT
Hello from Oregon ... our family 2013 Ford Explorer has been a terrific automobile for 90,000 mile. Now, our trusted dealer/shop is looking at a transmission replacement!!! Really? I can't find any technical reports or notices. Has anyone had a similar experience? Seems a little early for such a serious problem.

When dealing with things of the "mechanical" nature, aside from design specifications, there are so many variables, most of them unknown and unimaginable, things tend to malfunction. Sometimes you can treat something with the most care and have an immediate failure, other time you can not give two clicks and then never even have an issue!

Welcome!! You are not giving us any info besides "need a new trans". What are the symptoms? What happened? Cant say something is or is t common without any details.

There have been some shifting issues ( hard shifts and/or shifts that slam) but mostly addressed with software updates. It is rare a trans has to be replaced.

The dealer is one of the worst places to take a vehicle when you are having transmission problems, that is unless you are still under some kind of warranty.

If you are out of warranty find a local ATRA member transmission shop and have them check it out before you have any repairs done.

Welcome to the Forum.
Since your thread subject line was about as long as your post, I made some modifications to both. There was a recent member who had a failure at 9k miles. There have not been many transmission failure that I can recall. More PTU units have failed than transmissions. As blwnsmoke mentioned, it is difficult to provide comments since there are no real details surrounding the problem.
