2015 Explorer
Hi everyone, new here to ford forums. I have a 3 week old 2015 explorer and so far I love it. I settled for a base model, and thought I could upgrade over time myself. The first step for me is mounting an aftermarket GPS somewhere in the vehicle. I have a Garmin Nuvi 2555, that I will use for now, till I can afford to go to Crutchfield for their Navigation stereo with installation to reassemble the stock unit.
Questions I have: what is the pocket above the radio on the top part of the dash for? Is there a beanbag base that will fit in it? Or is there a way to put a bracket on it?
Also, what the heck is the little round opening on the console that sits beside the cup holders? seems wasteful.
I would also consider a mirror mount or over head console mount. Any ideas?
thanks!!

Hi there:

My 2 cents in bold.

IMHO, there are too many electronics and wires involved even in the base model that I would stick with the Garmin Nuvi 2555. Get a bean bag holder or something similar for you to place it in the pocket above the radio, when you are not using it, remove it.

Questions I have: what is the pocket above the radio on the top part of the dash for? Is there a beanbag base that will fit in it? Or is there a way to put a bracket on it?

that is the location of an additional speaker componet for the Sony/HD radio, in your case as well as the XLT model is empty. You can place a bean bag to hold the GPS.

Also, what the heck is the little round opening on the console that sits beside the cup holders? seems wasteful.

That little round opening is for those models with the transmission selector, in your case it makes a nice coin holder

Hope this helps,
RM

Thanks, just the info I needed! any recommendations on the bean bag holder? Most seem too large for the opening in the dash? thanks

Sorry, but mine has the navigation system. There are small bean bags that can fit in the opening. You should try first Radio Shack, if out of luck there then go to eBay or Amazon.

Previous cars that I had I used a suction cup in the windshield bit in OUR case the distance from the windshields to a level eye planefield is kind of far unless you try placing the suction cup in the lower left hand side, just a thought.

BM:thumbsup:

Also you have the telephone option as a GPS depending on your data plan.
