I have a 2017 Explorer XLT 3.5 4WD 23,000 miles, just noticed oil leak. Dealer said needs rear main seal. getting fixed now.
Is this way to soon to need a rear main seal on 3 yrs old 23,000 miles?

It’s quite rare that a rear main seal would begin leaking that early, I would possibly get a second opinion, or have them put dye in the oil and use a black light to verify the exact source. In order to change the rear main the engine and trans have to be split apart, which is a fairly involved process, and will be quite costly.

I bought the Explorer new in 2017 and bought the 7 year 100,000 mile warranty so no charge to me, so Ford dealer will repair. Yes I agree it should not be leaking after 3 years.
appreciate your comments thanks
