Hi I am trying to get the bolts for a 3" boly lift on my 1996 explorer. I have the kit #853 and the bolts do not work. by my calculation, I need 12mm bolts 18cm, 20cm, and 23cm long, with a 8.8 strangth. I have not been able to find these around where I live. Where would I be able to get these bolts. Any help would be appreciated.

All the bolts will work, you have to change the location for them to fit. One has to be drilled all the way through.

Here's how to do it.

the size of the bolts in the kit are 16, 18, and 20 cm. Taking the stock bolt lengths and adding 3 inches, it doesn't seem as though the bolts in the kit will be long enough.

I live about 30 minutes from you. Need some help? I have installed a lot of these kits. Let me know, I am more than willing to give you a hand.

yes, I would like assistance. I need to wait for my explorer to get fixed at Park city first. Today, the drivers side seat belt broke. It will be fixed tuesday, and I have to work until the weekend, so the weekend would be the first time I can get to work on it.

Ok, just let me know a few days in advance. Unfortunately this weekend is the best time, next weekend I have a wedding to goto up north. Not sure when I'll be back on Sunday, but I'll let you know.

My friend John or somone else from my firehouse will be helping us too, I think there will be enough work for all of us. Are there any special tools that I need? If so let me know.

Off the top of my head you'll need 3/8 or 1/2 inch socket set, air tools, torch kit, sawzall, lots of WD-40 and a heavy duty drill w/1/2" drill bit for metals.

Let me know what you don't have here and I'll bring it. I have all of the above. Only thing I don't have is the 1/2 inch bit, but you can get that at Home Depot for about 12 bucks. If you have to buy it, don't get the cheap ones because they don't last long. I might have a bit laying around.

Extra hands always help, the more the better. We can do the entire lift in a day with two people.

Like I said, let me know when is a good time. I work M-F and until noon on Sat.

Hi. I beleve I have the socket set, but I am not sure. I have no air tools, I so not have a torch, or a sawsall. I do have WD 40, I do have a drill, and I will go out and buy the 1/2 inch drill bit. I have off of work the 28th, 29th, and 30th of this month. Hopefully we can do it during one or two of those days. I need to get this done before I drive to Florida on August 10th.

You are going to need 4 new bolts with that kit. The four bolts that in the front passenger area. One under each front floorboard and one under each front seat.

I'm trying to remember this off of the top of my head, so I might be a little off...
The shortest bolts in the kit are 160mm long, right? You need four that are 140mm long. I had to go to an industrial fastener specialty shop to find them.

I suggest not using the included bolts that are too long with washers to take up the extra space. That's a lot of washers for such important bolts. I also suggest not reusing the stock rear bumper bolts since the threads do not go the entire length of the bolt. There won't hardly be any threads at all into the busing.

Never had a problem with the rear bumper bolts being too short. Maybe we do it differently. Also, with the bolts that are too long, I drill through thr cup washer and then use a nut and washer. Those are easy to get unlike the bolts.

You going to Paragon this Aug?
