3 Liter Ranger Starting Problem

I went to start my 98 KC Ranger yesturday and all I got was click, click, click. After a few good hits with a broomstick it started. Today I replaced the starter/selenoid, with a rebuilt unit from Oreilly. Surprise, Click, click, click until I bashed it again. Tried restarting several times and everything was OK till I got to Oreilly to return the core, than Click, click, click again. Battery tests good and the battery connections are clean. There is only one selenoid on this car. What do I do now? Sorry I'm a terrible speller!

Check the ground cable connection where it bolts to
the starter bolt. I'd remove the cable end, wire-brush
the area and retighten the bolt/nut.

Thanks for a real good idea. I'm waiting for the trouble to reappear since everything has been fine for the last week. Maybe the bad weather will get it to do it again.
