3rd brake light works, but others don't.

Hello Im having a problem with my back break lights working some times but nmit others. The 3rd one does all the time but its a guessing game as to what the problem is. I tried the bulbs, checked basic wiring, and im thinking it could be the stop light switch. Any opionions would help.

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread into the 2001-2005 Sport Trac section. The switch has to be good if the 3rd light is working properly. It might be a ground connection near the brake lights.

Do the tail lights or turn signals work? Tilt the steering column back and forth and see if they work, even momentarily. The wiring/plug to the multifunction switch is a known trouble spot on these Explorers.
