1998 ford explorer sport
I have a 98 ford explorer sport , 4.0 4x4 with 213000 miles.. for some reason I can't figure out is that my coil pack randomly loses power , truck turns over like its going to start but the coil pack won't spark , I let it set over night and it will start just fine 3-4 times and then quit sparking again , put new coil pack in , that didn't help , took the can sensor out & cleaned it cause it was pretty crummy , still get same results ...no check engine light either , code scanner says its working fine and throws no codes , any one framilliar with this problem ? Its my only vehicle , and I drive 60 miles round trip everyday for work..need to get it figured out asap if any one can give me more ideas to check I'd be gladly appreciatave

Try removing the PCM plug-in, use a spray cleaner
on it, WD-40, and plug back in. If that dosen't help,
I'd suspect the crank position sensor, even though
a code isn't present.

Good luck. These random troubles are the toughest...

Thanks for some input , I did manage to find the crank sensor yesterday, pulled the clip & wiggled the wires , put clip back on and it seems to have stoped it, but after reading Yer post about the pcm , I'm goin to go out a do that also, when I bought my truck the previous owner has slid into a tree and totally destroyed the passenger side, ( he attempted to pull the dents and weld new panels , + a new door) looks OK , but its a rough job lol ..n e ways I have a dent in my passenger side windshield piller , windshield busted right in that spot also , so it leaks water on occasions and that's pretty close to were the pcm sits in the dash board .......thanks for Yer input & hopefully this works !!!! This is my second 98 exploder in 5 years , very dependable ....unless u have my issue with this one ;) # still kick myself in the ass daily for selling my last one for $1000 ...it was 10x nicer than this one

Hope that was it. Good luck.

Well I took just about every electrical connection apart & sprayed wd40 in or on it , no problems in the past week , and hope it stays that way , BUT what I did find was I have 2 scratches on harmonic balancer that go in a complete circle around it , almost right were the crank sensor is mounted...they are fresh scratches ...hope that don't have something to do with it
