I came into a 2005 explorer XLT with a smooth running 4.0L with 125,000 miles and ice cold air conditioning for $200. There are some issues with the title, so it may just stay in the back yard of my job as a parts car for my wife's 2006 Eddie Bauer 4.0L.
Yes I know they are different generations cosmetically, but I'm wondering mainly if things like motor, trans, transfer case, front and rear diffs, etc are the same, or just real similar.
Both the 05 and 06 are 4.0L, 4wd with the Auto, High, Low buttons. The motor in the parts car actually sound a little better than wife's, which is starting to sound like timming chains and associated parts need attention.
Any input would be appreciated, as I plan on keeping the 06 a long long time.
