We need help. I have posted a couple times and this time thought I would link a video. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. My car is a 2004 Ford Explorer with a 4.0 SOHC engine with 127k miles. Thanks, Kathy

your timing chain is going out, and your probably wrecking your valves by running the motor

I think it's time for a new motor, you can try and removing the serpentine belt and eliminate alt, water pump, ect.

keep posting

Vipersinu2, We have changed all tensioners and chains, then he pulled the lash adjusters and the rockers, after all that I posted the video. Could it be as simple as an alternator, or water pump? It is a horrible noise, but this is the cleanest engine I have ever seen. The prior owner was meticulous about its scheduled maintenance.... I mean, oil pressure great, oil pan clean, it's just crazy!

exhaust & compression

I suggest using a hose to check for an exhaust leak. Then perform a compression test checking for a sticking or bent valve.

Did the timing chain components get changed because of timing chain rattle or because the engine quit running?

that sound is so distinctive, maybe the timing was screwed up when the new chains were put in, causing the cams to activate the valves at the wrong time

you did a bunch of work on that engine, it sounds like something from under the valve covers, it almost sounds like oil is not getting up to the valves, I would remove the valve covers and start up and see what is going on. if the timing was out one these engine it would not run at all.

Sounds like there is something broken in the valve train to the least. It also seems to be holding the motor back but not causing a missfire. I have replaced and worked on about 10 different sohcs with timing chain issues and that just seems too loud to be timing related (could be the video), Did you pull the motor and change the rear chain and guide? I would also take both valve covers back off and make sure the oil rail did not break off and is just laying there.

Timing chain & tensioners changed due to rattle, but the only thing that looked bad at all was the counter balance shaft tensioner was broke.

Don't feel like it's out of time, bought the special tools to use to keep it in as chains were changed.

We've had the valve covers off and it shoots oil everyone, great pressure.

Oil rail is not broken.

Going to pull the front cover back off to double check that nothing is out of place. Let you know as soon as that is done. If it's not a quick response, we will, just need a break from this problem.

Thanks for all the input! Our brains are tired!!!
