Well this is a truck that was dropped into my lap last summer bin driving for a year and love the truck, well i can hear the timing chains get worse and worse on start up, so i bought another engine with lower milage, bought a timing chain kit and head gaskets kit, i plan on giving this truck to my sister with 2 kids and a retard boyfriend.
so i wanna fix all issue's so they can drive it and no worry.
I am a automotice tech 75% done my course till licence got alot of learning to go yet, but i have some questions about removing the head's on thes engine's.
ill set it at tdc #1 when i go to remove the heads and hope i do not have any valve damage, and also have it there for when i remove all the timing chains.
If anyone can give me advise on where to have the crank during this process or give me tips and advise let me know, im throwing out everything for timing parts and installing all new.

head gaskets?

The SOHC V6 does not blow head gaskets nearly as often as the OHV V6. I would not remove the heads unless I knew there was a problem or I was rebuilding the entire engine.

TDC for #1 piston is a good choice for head replacement and timing the camshafts.

Ya well this is a junkyard engine building it for my sister and i am pulling the crank and resealing everything, the headgaskets are part of the kit, so ill throw them in while im checking the main and rod bear's to make sure its a good clean engine so she doesnt have any big repair bills in the next 5 year's, 200,000 km's on the old girl with a freshend up engine and rebuilt tranny shes good for another 200k, just body needs a little tlc that will be coming.
