Now the problem im facing the build hasnt hit the road since it was stock and i want to change the gears i will drive 15 miles to work no highway but i would like to be able to take the truck camping as i live in michigan and it is two track heven here. Should i go 4.10 or 4.56 i wanna buy both front and rear tomorrow.

4.56 gears with 33s is about equivalent to stock tires with 4.10 gears.

So therefore 35s and 4.56 will be something like 3.73 gear and stock tires. 35s and 4.10s will be about like 3.55 gears.

I went with 4.56 when I only had 30" tires. Now that I have 33s, I'm glad I didn't go with 4.10s. If I upgrade to 35s, I'll really be happy that I have the 4.56.

With 35s I would at least go 4.56 or consider 4.88. I love my 4.88s

Awsome anyone have a link that i could get to buy everything i need

I second 4.88s... 4.10 shouldn't even be a option. ..

Thanks for the calculator worked perfect

For explorers with a auto trans the general rule of thumb for street driven is(remember 4.10 came stock with 28" tires)
31=4.10
33=4.56
35=4.88
37+=5.13

NEVER FEAR THE GEAR!!your find tons of people who say they wish they went bigger and very few who say they went to big..

Im running with manual trans does that change much

Depends what you do more of..little highway and more offroad i wouldnt change a thing..more highway you can go down one gear..manuals have lower first couple gears and higher 5th gear

I very rarely hit high way id rather leave early and take a scenic back road . i have been looking into it and im going 4.88 just becuase i dont care about mpg. I drive 12 miles to work so at the 10mpg il be getting with 4.88 it wont be a problem and if i go somwhere i wouldnt need the big ex i have a 92 on 31" i drive everyday right now. I appreciate all thw input guys you have all made this build alot smoother. And saved me a ton in trial and error witch is alot of saved $$$

You honestly wont get that bad..its like a couple hundred rpm difference in 4.56 and 4.88..honestly in your case you might get better..your definitely use less gas getting up to speed and keep it at a reasonable speed/rpm and your be fine..wrong gears kills mpg trying to spin heavy big tires up to speed..i get around 18 city and 23 on highway with my 4.88s and big ass 36x14.50. I wish i went 5.13 but my motor is not stock and makes up for power loss

Ps if you really only drive 12 miles take an extra 5 mins and let it warm up especially considering you live in a cold state. . Allowing it to warm up will increase your miles per gallon greatly

Pss..for your dd with 31" tires you may look into doing a junkyard 2nd gen rear end with disc breaks and 4.10 gears..better brakes and better gears.if you dont 4x4 it or if its 4x2 you can do just the rear swap and most junkyard charge under $200 for it..you may make up that cost in gas saved from having better gears..lol

Little of topic but hey deals with gears still :-)

Last question. .do you have a open or limited slip rear on the truck you plan to wheel?? Now would be time to do a rear locker if its open or do ford racing clutches if its a limited slip..both HUGE HUGE improvements and but pretty cheap

I honestly dont know what ever came stock with the 94 sport and if there is options idk yet i will have to look further into what this truck is equipt with tomorrow as i just bought it
