I'm considering 33's on my 91 Eddie Bauer and am not quite sure about the gears. I currently have 3:73 with 31's. I live in Tennessee and like to travel out west when I can. How would 4:10's or 4:56's affect my top-end speed and gas mileage with 33's?

YOU ONLY WANT TO CHANGE GEARS ONCE, SO GO WITH THE 4:56'S. THERE IS ONLY ABOUT AN 8% DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO RATIOS. WITH THE 4:56'S YOU (NO ONE GOES DOWN IN TIRE SIZE) CAN ONE DAY MOVE UP TO 35/36 INCH TIRES. YAH BABY!

GO 4:56 gears, I wish I did. I have 33" tires with 4:10's and I am just under stock grearing. With 4:56 you will be better off. Now I will have to checkout the Advance Adaptor's transfer case reduction. Dead Link Removed

I have 4.10s with 33's on mine. I am very happy with them. They make a great highway gear. I have no problem with top speed (can do 110 mph) and long trips are not too difficult. I went from 3.27 and 235's to 4.10 and 33's so I actually have more gear than stock now.

Calculate what your effective ratio (this takes the tire diameter into account) currently is and what it would be with the 33's and the 4.10 and 4.56 gears. Compare them and choose the one closest to original if you like the way your truck performs now.

which would be the over all fastest both at acceleration (with 33's) and top speed? or do you have to sacrifice one to get the other?
thanks
