4wd and all wheel drive

All I have to ask is how do you know if the explorer is all wheel drive. Isn't it if there isn't a 4wL and H switch, then you don't have AWD. Thanks

Only V8's have awd. But not all V8 are awd's. A lot of times people confuse the auto-4wd that came out on the 97+ V6 Explorers with awd.

The Auto-4WD simply means that you're in 2WD until your truck senses tire slippage and automatically shift into 4WD.

AWD is basically 4WD all the time.. but with no low-range or 2wd options.
