4WD is not engaging.

Hi and thank you for welcoming me.
I have a 93 Explorer that I'm having 4x4 problems with. I would push the 4x4 button and no lights and no engaging...so I went on line trying to find the problem and thats how I found this club !
I tapped on transfer case and 4x4 light on dash came on but didnt engage. I reached under and turned front drive shaft and then it clicked and seamed to catch but did not engage and then had to do it over and over again...but no 4x4. Anyone have an idea about this problem ?

Welcome to the forum! Sounds like it could be a bunch of things. Checking all your power sources for 12Volts would be the first step and then going from their. Are you the original owner or are you a new owner? Sounds like that transfer case is not engaging properly and its related to the transfer case shift motor not working.
