Good day all!

Have a 4x4 question. I performed a search to see if anyone had any shifting troubles using the automatic switch. Some said they're lights flashed on and off when they couldn't get it to go into 4WD. The most common answer that I saw was to clean the shift module on the transfer case.

Well, I've experienced my 4wheel drive actually kicking out of gear when I was already driving in it. Is this a safety measure to prevent damage? This occurs when I drive in the snow. Also, my light flashes until Im able to get it back into 4WD. Its very strange. I can hear the switch clicking away to go back to 4 but no go. I usually have luck getting it back in if I get on a nice flat surface and then go in reverse or forward a bit. Not sure if there is a coincidence.

Finally, it appears that my 4WD auto doesn't work, yet my 4WD low does after I use my trick. Does all of this sound familiar?

Sorry for posting on a somewhat similar problem, just needed more feedback.

Thanks in advance:D

Come on know-it-alls...I know you're out there:D

Last bump, then I'll zip it.

I have 94 Sport and I just began to have problems yesterday. I went up in the snow, hit the 4X4 button and the light came on but no 4X4. I could tell because the rear end was coming around on me!

I'm going to take it apart ASAP and lube everything and I hope that will do it.

Mike, same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I was going up a hill half-sideways with the back wheels spinning. Very annoying. Last winter I gave it quite a go in about 2 feet of snow and she worked like a charm. Please let me know what you find...by email.

JoeDirt, after searching on this website, I concluded my auto hubs are either trashed or just binding up. EVERYONE on this site recommends switching to manual locking hubs because of durability and cost (manual are much cheaper than auto).
Since I only use 4WD for going up to the pass for snowboarding, I'd rather not switch to manual hubs unless mine are thrashed. I plan to disassemble the front hub and regrease the wheel bearings. At that time, I'll wipe clean the auto hub assembly then reassemble. If it works, cool - if not, I'll switch to manuals now.

Search on "auto hub" for a bunch of great posts.

he does not have hub's on a 96..he has cv joint's

and if 4x4 low work's then it's a shift moter prob i would think
