'92 Explorer Sport 4x4
Hello all. I have purchased a 92 Explorer Sport for $100. Yes thats right $100. The guy i bought it from thought the transmission was bad in it. Once i towed it home i found out that it was just low on tranny fluid. So, i went on ahead and replaced the filter and tranny fluid and added a bottle of Lucas Transmission treatment (stuff works great), and walla. She runs and drives like a champ. A/C blows cold and everything works except for the cruise control and the 4x4. I have read alot about the auto hubs going bad. I dont think that the hubs are bad in this case. Then again i dont know what i am looking for either. I saw now stripped splines or anything like that. I am new to 4WDs and this is actually my first Amercian car purchase, so really, the whole thing is new to me.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what the problem could be? Please help! :shoot:

Welcome to the site.. The easiest thing to do first would be to check the fuses.. If that doesn't work, you can go under the truck and try cleaning the shift motor. Here's a link on how to.. Dead Link Removed
Hopefully that link will help you out.

Yeah...after opening my mouth i searched some more and ran into that site. I printed up the instructions. I will play with it tommorrow.

I, eventually, want to get some manual hubs...but if I can get it to work (for now) without spending any money,,,that would be great.
