4WD not working.. got stuck this weekend

Hi, My family went apple picking this weekend, and we got stuck in the orchards. I had the 4wd on.. light on and all, and apparently the front wheels did not get engaged???

when I got stuck only my rear 2 wheels spun. the front wheels didn't do anything. Had to have a tractor pull me out.

when I got home, I engaged the 4wd, and attempted to floor it on gravel, only rear wheels spun. What can it be???

also, when I took it OUT of 4wd, it started to clunk, and I had to go in reverse for about 15 feet to "disengage" it, and it works.

BUT... the 4wd doesn't work! Any ideas? before I take it in? It's a '94 Eddie Bauer.

It sounds like your Auto Hubs are blown, you should take the opportunity to convert to Manual hubz

yeah your right Yomie, but maybe he should check with the T-case first, I had the exact same pro under the exact same occasion and it turn out to be the vaccum that switches from 2 to 4, even if you can ear the clunk that i usually makes that does not mean that it`s engaged. Only the back wheels will spin.
Not expensive to fix.
