Hi all
As described in this thread
http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=262292
My 4wd on my 97 xlt is not working.
After reading the comprhensive brown wire mod thread I understand the system a bit better and Today we have pulled out the dash to play with the TOD Relay and the TCS relay and see if we can identify the problem. We did find that in a previous attempt to fix it the dealer had taken 12 volts from the ciggy lighter and wired onto the transfer case clutch coil via a dash switch. Technically this should have at least made 4hi operate (I think)
Anyway we also checked for voltage on the brown wire from under the car back to what I think is the TOD relay (tucked in just to the left behind the stereo). When the selector knob is on auto there was about 1.2 volts going to the Transfer case clutch coil. When we selected 4hi or 4 lo at the dash the voltage jumped up to about 6.7 volts. Does anyone know if this is normal operation ? After this we checked the 4wd we think it might actually be engaging. We are going to take it to a mechanic after lunch and see if we can stick it on a hoist and check if theres power to the front wheels.
Thanks for any help
Matt
