Alright as some of you know I converted my 2wd 91 to 4wd last week. 4x4 high worked fine for 5 days, 4wd low never shifted. I started playing around with it the other day and when I went to shift into 4x4 high I got nothing. I did the white putton test on the shift computer and I got 4 blinks which told me the problem was in the shift motor. So I crawled undernieth tonight and pulled the motor out. Dissasembled it and noticed that the contacts on the armature were just about black, along with the brushes springs and the slot where teh brushes and springs slide into. I cleaned all of it and reasembled. I had some trouble getting the motor back on the tcase but after playing with it for a few minutes it went on. I tightned everything down and re connected the harness and then tried to shift to 4x4 high. Nothing. So I did the check at the computer's white button and I once again got 4 blinks. What do yall thing? Did i not do a good enough job cleaning? I got as much of the black stuff of it as possible. Let me know if you guys have any other ideas...

Thanks
Chris

Where did you get this info about the 4 blinks and what exactly does it mean. Just curious since I have never heard of it. Do you know if there is any difference between the auto and manual tranny controller? I have a manual tranny controller out of a 93 Mazda Navajo and the number on it above the led and test button is F17B-7E453-AA. There are 7 wires coming out of it and going into a 8 wire plug(one is empty. The only thing I can think of is that the controller is confused or the motor is just bad. See if you can find out which wires going into the motor are supposed to be energized when you push the button and try seeing if it is trying to engage the motor and the motor just isn't moving.

I found the info on the blinking light on Dead Link Removed
Basically you disconect the 2 wiring harness conected to the computer and then push the white putton on the bottom of the computer while the car is in the acc. position. From my understaning, if the light stays red then it is a problem with the computer and if it blinks then it is a problem with the tcase shift motor. I will try to get into it a bit more on firday when I have a day off of work. I'll check out the wires that connect to the computer and the tcase. Find which ones are suposed to by hot and so on. I do have a diagram that describes which wires to the shift motor are suposed to be hot in 2wd, 4x4 high, and 4x4 low. So I guess i'll try to test all that and if it seems to be in working order then I will put the motor out again, clean it again, make sure everything is lined up corectly and then try to get it to engage. If it doesn't then I guess I am SOL and need to get a new motor.
