Hello,

I just purchased a new 2007 "Limited" 4x4 Explorer. I have had 4x4's all my life but am curious about hoe the Explorer works. I understand how 4x4 High and 4x4 Low work on my new vehicle. Push the button on the dash and a light illuminates and you are in 4 wheel drive. But the third button, 4x4 Auto, how do you know that you are in 4x4 Auto? I push the 4x4 Auto button and there is no indication that it is activated. The owners manual is worthless about 4x4 Auto. Is it always in 4x4 Auto with the options to go to 4Hi or 4 Lo?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome! :) It's actually one of the more pleasant and worry free options. As long as you're not in 4hi or 4lo, you are in 4auto. 4auto is like AWD all wheel drive... and you hit 4auto to get out of 4hi or 4lo. Are you familiar with how to use 4hi and 4lo in your new vehicle? It's a little different. Search is good, but seeing that the vehicle is new, a little extra help is warranted.

Thanks Donner!

I am a member of several different forums and I did do a search on "4x4 Auto" before I posted this question but came up with nothing. As are most of us I was impatient for an answer and didn't want to spend hours pouring over old posts.

Thanks again.

Just remember that using 4lo requires the vehicle to be stopped and in neutral before you use it, and when switching back to 4auto. Take care!

Just like my Ranger.. ..except for the part of going back to 4x4 Auto.

What's the 07 limited like? Comfy? I've seen them in the showroom, nice!! What's the concern about 4auto? You had to use 4hi or 4lo?

Real Comfy Ride.

I had the thing for a week before I headed up into the snow for a ski trip. I wasn't sure at the time about the 4x4 Auto. I never did use 4Hi or Lo.

Got it... most of the time on casual drives you won't use anything outside of 4auto unless Chain Control tells you otherwise (but they look at your tires first). Tires really add to how the vehicle performs... the Ex is a good vehicle :) This is my 3rd...
