Got a 2002 Explorer that is in 4x4 high and won't disengage..

BTW, it's a 4.0L Auto..

Any ideas??

Thanks!

Phil

I must say I'm a little surprised that no one responded..

Nonetheless, We took the 4x4 module behind the glove box.. unplugged for 10 mins.. Plugged it back in and it disengaged the 4x4 high....

But, we tried putting it back into 4x4 high again and couldn't get it to disengage again, so we had to replace the module..

Just so ya know!!!....

Thanks for posting back up with your results. I saw your question but was unsure about what might be wrong - but I was thinking 4X4 control module. Glad you got it fixed.

Sorry... not a lot of 3rd gens on here for some reason.

I would have suggested the module, but I don't get into this forum very often.... glad you got it fixed though!

If it is stuck in lo then it is your shift motor. Thats what my mech told me today

Your mechanic isn't quite correct.... if it's stuck in low, it CAN be the shift motor, but not necessarily. If the GEM (or in this case the 4x4 shift module) is calling for an uncommanded shift, it can be caused by a lot of different electrical gremlins.
