i'm somewhat of a novice mechanic, and my 97 Ford Explorer sports 4x4 isnt working. I know i need a switch, possibly the motor that swaps from auto/low/high range. what i'm wondering is if Vacuum plays any role in this and it's routing.
Also, assuming no vacuum issue and Tcase motor issue, does anyone know what cables from the switch, in combination activate each phase of 4x4? I'd like to try that before buying a motor, unless its needed.
Edit: my 4H/4L dash indicators flas eratically about 60% of the time....it's a 4.0 OHC V6
Edit 2: on a 97 explorer sport, where other than behing the central intrument panel are there relays etc i need to check? The one behind dash is good, i know switch is bad, i have a toggle on it, cant hear the shift motor activate. So i'm thinking it's a different relay, the motor, or (if the 97 has it) the vacuum activated...uh...actuator....had a brainfart.
