I had a clicking in the past when I used 4x4 and now I am stuck in mud...in my own yard! I engague the 4x4 , the light comes on. But when I try to move forward/reverse the back tires spin and the front make a sounds like a toy car (kinda of a wind) but the front wheels are not pullin. The sound stops when I take it out of 4x4. Is it fixable?:(

Do you have auto hubs? Can you hear the shift motor kicking in?

Robb

btw: please don't double post!

Auto Hubs? Yes I do . As gar as the shift motor I'm not sure. I think I use to in the past and recently haven't it use to take awhile to kick in. Like I went 4x4 in the snow and waited about 15 sec for it to be connected and when I would gas the car was 2 wheel then would hit 4x4 befor I could even let off the gas. I thought that might be hard on it. The drive shaft was spin at about 3500 and would throw the car forward when 4x4 locked

hmmmmm..........I reread your first post and that definately sounds like your auto hubs are shot (very common). Then I read your second post and that sounds like your shift motor may be on it's way out also. Personally, I would start by replacing your auto hubs with Warn manual hubs. If you use your 4x4 often, it is the best mod you can make to a 1st gen with auto hubs. They will run you about $150 and not very difficult to swap out.

Well does anyone know where I can find the motor and 1st gen hubs? Online anywhere? Cuz I dont know what they look like if I had to hand pick them

yup.. i had the same problem, my truck was stuck in mud, the rears spun and ripped off the valve stems..the fronts didnt spin at all, so basically, i was screwed..... cost $450 the next day to get a wrecker to pull me out.... well, i never actually KNEW for a fact my autohubs blew, but i decided it was time for manuals... put manuals in, and have never had a problem with the fronts not turning ever since....

you can get the hubs at 4 whhel parts wholesalers www.4wheelparts.com a lot of other online truck places have them as well... and do a search for the shift motor, it only needs to be cleaned out except in some very rare cases

Dammn!!!!!!!! Blown hubs and ripped the valve stems off? That thought had never entered my mind. I think I would totally lose it if I ripped the stems off trying to get out of mud.:( I will definitely keep that in mind.
