1997 EB 5.0 AWD trying to get the bottom of the airbox out now that I put a new intake in, is there a trick to it? I thought you just pulled up and from the search I did it seems like that's the trick but this thing won't budge. Also those of you that ran a new intake in, what did you do with the oil tube? I disconnected it and there was no place to hook it back up so I just left it off to the side.

Ok, so on my ex (4.0 OHV) you've just gotta pull up hard. Try to use one hand and get underneath and hold the metal plate down, and pull up hard with the other hand.
Also, autozone and places like that sell these little tiny filters that you can hook on there. But don't throw away your tube until you find out if the filter fits. Mine didn't fit right so I had to cut the tube and use the tube as an adapter (it fit on the oil tube perfectly)

If fastened with rubber grommets, lubricate them.

Replacing a quality air filter with an/your OEM (not talking about K&N either) filter will be in your favor.

Stock airbox=good, no HP loss,

Stock filter=alright, but there is better...

When it comes to filtration, choose the best you can find (regarding filtration, not flow)

Your oil will love you for it in the long run.

Agree 100% with THIS stock air box design. Problem with aftermarket oiled
panel filters is many don't follow the proper cleaning and re-oiling procedure,
and service them too often. K&N's "normal" interval is every 50,000 miles.

Yeah, you really have to reach in there and give it a good, hard, chest-hair growing kinda pull. If your voice hasn't dropped an octave after doing it, then you weren't using enough testosterone. They REALLY stick in there.

God dang it guy, you are my new best friend. I can't count how many guys come into threads like this and start yelling to drop in a K&N filter to get 18 more mpg and 2147631246123 HP, then argue and throw tantrums if someone says they aren't gaining anything but a lighter wallet.

Thanks for the info. I was afraid I was going to break something in there just yanking hard. I'll try again and spray the rubber to make it come out. I did this mostly for the look of it. I've been around enough to know I wasn't going to pick up big gains in mpg or hp. I just wanted something that looked nice and changed the sound a little. I've run a few cone filters over the years. I make sure to take care of them, no worries on that front.

I literally run one for the sound. Haha I almost feel like a ricer saying that (with their stupid big-ass mufflers). I really doubt that I gained more than 1hp, if there was any gain at all, except that it sounds louder so in my mind I probably feel like I'm going faster.

FIND- you're forgetting the most important proof- the butt dyno... :D
