Can someone please help me? I've done the conversion and the motor starts right up then dies. If you try to start it again it won't start. But if you turn the key off then back on again it will start right up. I know it is running out of fuel but why? And I've also tried hooking up the fuel pump to the battery so it wouldn't stop and it makes no diffrence. What is going on.By the way the motor is out of a 87 grand Marquise. EFI

Try to switch your fuel lines around. Make sure you have them going the right direction. Sounds crazy, but take it from someone who has done this before :)

I checked the lines and they are on the right side. Man I just don't know what to do. I'm about to pull the intake and put on a carb but that was totally not the point of all this work.

Hey it may be something easy like the fuel filter!

Definitely don't go carb, FI rocks!

Now if were an 4.0, and it did that, I would say look at the IAC........

Relay

Try checking the the fuel pump relay because it sounds like it is getting fuel for the intial start up but then the relay isnt getting the constant signal to stay energized.
That is why it will start when the key is off and then turned to start. Listen to the fuel pump when you start it intially and then listen to see if it goes off after about 2-5 seconds. Have some one listen below the truck when you try it.
Let me know if that was the prob.

Sounds like Explorer ! is on the right track. I have this problem with another car I was working on a while ago. Did you swap the computer from the donor car? Look for a security system and unplug it. The car with the same problem had one right next to the main brain. It would have the same problems you are having right now. The owner was wanting to tear into the fuel injection and had a fuel pump ready for me to install. I simply unplugged the security system that had no other indication other than fuel (no horns or sirans) cut off. Hope this helps.

solid axle,

Whats up!

Hows it going?

Did you get the e-mail?

Seems that Explorer1 send the same e-mail.
Again, check the run/start power line, seems that you have some thing mixed up.

Let us know what is going on and how you fixed it; could help others.

Thanks for all the help. Found out the problem was the fuel filter was too small, now runs great. Just need rear drive shaft and fan for radiator and all will be complete. Thanks again!
