5.0L Lossing Pwer/ Cutting Out

Hey guys, my first post and I'm already asking for help! Sorry.

I'm trying to help my mother in law out. She has a 1997 Explorer with a 5.0l V8 and 140k miles.

She is having problems with the engine cutting out/losing power at various times. from what she is saying it will lose power or cut out for about 10 seconds and then clear up. It does this whether the engine is cold or warm. The check engine light came on 2 days after this and it has now stayed on and the engine has cut out on her (but not died yet) about 4 or 5 different times.

take it to an auto parts store, most of them will read the trouble codes for free, just don't let them sell you any parts while they're doing it. Then tell us what the code is and we can help you from there.

I ran the ODBII scanner and it came back as a cylinder #4 misfire. I believe the code was P0304. Could it just need plugs? Maybe an injector? Thanks for the help!

It could be the plug, or maybe a cracked plug wire, I would start by replacing those since they're pretty inexpensive, and then go from there if that doesn't fix the problem, it's probably due for a tune up anyway.
