50-60mph whine... someone please give me the straight dope

What's the problem associated with this whine? Is it a performance or safety concern? How easily fixed is it? If it needs to be fixed, will Ford replace it on a 2003 with 63.5K miles on it and with an extended BaseCARE warranty? I read a long thread about a while ago and just kept getting more and more confused... thanks.

Might be a u-joint problem. Only way to know if ford is going to cover the repairs is to have them take a look at it and figure out what the exact problem is.
