Have been babying this truck with the shift flare issues etc.. the whole time I've owned it. I hauled a heavy load of landscape bricks in the back and a few days later about 10 miles or so down the road it starts screeching real loud. It had no other symptoms or change in feel, just the noise. It seemed to come and go the rest of the way home ( about 15 more miles). I went for a drive a few days later for a test and it took several miles ( time for tranny to get warm I guess) for the noise to return. After several miles I turned on my road and turned the OD off and got up to about 60mph and it started its screeching. I turned OD back on and the noise momentarily stopped, then returned again intermittantly the rest of the way home. Any ideas ? Im hoping a valve body rebuild will take care of this.

Welcome. You best bet would be to pull down the pan and or VB and see if there is a large amount of ferrous or clutch material in there. If so than yes - you are looking at a rebuild. I don't think a VB will be any help here. Mine (same as yours) was making a nasty whale as well before I parked it for a new trans.

I will be disecting the old trans core as soon as I get it back from the shop. I suspect a bore somewhere is out of round causing the howling (on mine)
