2001 Sport Trac 4WD
Hi all. I'm new to the forum.

I've got an '01 SportTrac 4WD with only 31k miles. I've never had any tranny problems; I've only checked the fluid and it was always okay.

That changed when winter came. It started slipping on the upshift from 1st to 2nd -- the engine revved about 500 rpm faster for a split second between 1st and 2nd on that upshift.

After about two weeks the problem got worse, with the flashing OD light indicating tranny problems. Also, the truck seemed to accelerate sluggishly in first.

Well, after a month the problems vanished. No more slipping or OD light flashing. I didn't do anything -- it happened by itself, a month and a few hundred miles after it all started.

Anybody have an idea what was/is wrong?

I dunno what was wrong but I can tell you why it fixed itself -- Barack Obama won your state :D

maybe dirty fluid causing the slow upshift. problems like that rarely fix themselves and stay away. I would guess that the problem will return (or worse).

Do the shifts seem to be normal now or a little harsh?
