Is the R1HD stronger than the 4L R1? If so why? Also will the 1st gear out of the 4cyl R1 go in the other 2 without loss of strength?

Will which ever is the strongest retrofit into my 90 STX super cab 4x4 inplace of the 5sp I have now? I want to seriously upgrade the engine and want it to live with more power and the larger tires/wheels I have.

Anyone know?

i beliefe it is safe to assume that the R1HD (heavy duty) tranny will be stronger then the non HD R1, the HD trannys are generally built with beefier components, to handle greater torque and load.
