I have a '99 Eddie Bauer AWD. I'm replacing the shocks and noticed that it has a 5th shock connecting the rear axle to the frame on the passenger side. I've showed O'Reilly and Autozone the picture from the site and neither can figure out what it is called.

Can anyone advise what it is called and/or where I would find it? Also, how critical is it to replace if I'm replacing the 4 primary shocks.

Thanks!

Monroe: Steering Stabilizer shock.

Bilstein: Axle Damper shock.

Needed? That all depends on the condition of the old one, and personal preference. Street use=replace. Offroad=remove.

If Tony doesn't have them (I don't know if they carry Monroe shocks) I used the Monroe SC2958. I got it from Rock Auto a few years ago... Before I knew about 1A Auto... :)

HERE is the link to the shock if Tony can't help. Maybe he can order one for you since they do sell Monroe quick struts and stuff...

i recently replaced all four shocks and i noticed that rear was a tad more stiff and bouncy so i replaced the fifth shock and it did smooth out the ride a little. so i would say it does work. napa sells it for for about 45
