'87 BII 5 speed manual 4x4. A week or so ago, I started hearing a new noise from the transmission. I was wondering if anyone could give me any input.
The noise is a "buzz" like a bearing going bad or a gear loose. It occurs most noticeably when shifting from 1st to second, but also from 2nd to third. It occurs frequently but inconsistently. My gut feel is that it is something on the input shaft of the transmission because it appears when the clutch is disengaged and the transmission is in neutral and fades out, as if it were related to the input shaft "spinning down." The transmission is quiet, however, in neutral with the clutch engaged.
Any thoughts?
