9 mpg!? Where did I go wrong

I did mine at 125,000, no leaks, no regrets.

That is a big falicy. It would not be the fault of the Syn oil, if you do see leaks that organic clogged up, just think about all the other passages that organic oils have gummed up!

Yea i get 12-14 mpg. But ive have a new K&N just changed the oil new wires and plugs.. and im still getting that.. but i was told it could be a dirty flue filter too.

i usually run around 15 to 17 mpg in my Explorer,

that is highway and town combined

best highway mileage was about 19 mpg

best MPG i got on the highway was 22.
stock everything.
doing 75mph

I use synthetic on mine at 182,000 miles. No known issues.

Thats a good point there! :p

Id like to hear more about the fuel pressure regulator..

where is it?
how hard to replace?
estimated cost?

I have 140K and know that was never changed.. i get around 12-13mpg but have done the plugs/wires and maintnance stuff (though mines not stock), id like to see if i could get up to 14-15mpg if that regulator isnt hard to do...

I've posted my problems on other threads, but haven't gotten any solid advise. I used get around 330 miles per tank of gas (~16 gals). But after a camping trip last Fall, my gas mileage has crashed to around 210 miles per tank. For some reason the truck really struggled pulling my camper when it never had a problem before. The camper by the way is a very light 12' pop-up.

So far, I've done the following since that trip:

- did the TPS mod (some improvement, but not much)
- new fuel pressure regulator (no improvement)
- fuel filter (no improvement)
- fuel system flush (no improvement)
- new plug wires (no improvement)

Something failed on that trip, so what was it? Would it be worth having a computer diagnosis done on the engine?

Is 400km ok for a 92 xlt? Its mostly short trips (bout 10km to and from school), and about 10min idling in the morning if its cold out (remote start). I have a heavyish foot at the lights sometimes too.

Ok cool... yea Id like to know more about the FPR as well....

also i put in some gas cleaner stuff and ive gotten 120.3 miles on half a tank... which rounds out to about 13.1MPG with 18.431 Gallons which i put in....

Also another question....

What is the actualy size of the tank for a 1991 explo xlt 4dr... ive heard anything from 15.0-20+ just wondering...

Thanks

How terrible would it be to take a SI/SO v6 ex and have a custom SI/DO exhaust installed - as i've had done to mine? I cannot remember what type of gas mileage i had gotten previously (wasn't great), but i'm sucking 9-10 mpg now!
It's also a Conversion w/the raised fiberglass roof, all the interior trimmin's and an exterior body kit, so i'm carrying a li'l extra weight these days, but 10 mpg on a GOOD week???? I need HELP!
