Hi, Im the very happy new owner of my '92 which runs great. It has been taken care of very well. The one thing which doesn't work is the push button 4X4 and Low Range. Electronics aren't my best area. I have checked all the fuses to make sure they haven't been blown and that they are recieving power and I have tested the wires going into the Transfer case. There is power going down one of the wires but pushing the buttons does not cause power to go down any of the other wires. I was wondering if anyone knew if and where the relay for these wires would be located and or a good manual source(online?) which specifically covers the wiring of my vehicle?
Thanks

Welcome to the site. A quick search or a browse through the list of useful threads will answer all your questions on the issue. There is a very good write-up on here (somewhere) on how to troubleshoot your system and what to look for. Your problem is quite common (unfortunately), but can be easily figured out by even a novice shade-tree mechanic.

Good luck!

I have searched and browsed through the forums quite a bit and found lots of great info on the transfer case but have not found something on the wires themselves that go from the buttons to the t-case. The wires aren't transmitting any signal so the t-case may be fine but is not being told what to do. I'm having trouble following the wiring and was wondering if there was a relay involved and where it might be or if my actual wires may be damaged.
Thanks
Justin

More than likely, it is the same problem like 90% of people with a first gen ex experience. This is the shift motor on the transfer case just getting old and getting stuck. The first thing i would do is to take a rubber mallet, locate the electronic shift motor on the transfer case and give it a couple light taps. See if that works before anything else. If you've actually tested the wires going to the shift motor for charge and got nothing there is a relay box on the passenger side of the engine compartment. That's the only one I know of. Good luck, i'm sure with the help of this site, you'll be able to figure it out.
