'92 only moves in O or D

My '92 with around 125,000 miles had a good xmission rebuild at 93,000. No relation but I recently had my 3.73 gears changed to 4.56.

At the end of a hard day in the desert, the vehicle, when started, would only move forward in 1 or 2. Neither D or O would work. I detached the linkage and went through the gears manually and still no joy. It sounds like the tranny wants to kick in but the xfer case won't agree.

Any experiences with this?

I am thinking that your forward one-way clutch is bad. It is very common when shops do rebuilds on trannies, that they do not replace this part unless it looks bad. Thus, a year or so after the rebuild the trans is out again, because it goes bad. The truly experienced rebuilders ALWAYS replace this part. I would bring it back to the shop that rebuilt it and argue the point to them. Chances are good however, that because the trans is no longer in warranty, that they will charge you for the repair.
